From Tamil Nadu farms to wholesale markets to export bouquets โ rubber bands are essential at every stage of India's flower supply chain. Here is what works best.
India is the world's second-largest cut flower producer, with major growing regions in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh. Every step of the flower supply chain โ from farm harvest to market display to export cold-storage โ relies on rubber bands.
| Stage | Application | Best Size |
|---|---|---|
| Farm harvest | Bundle cut stems by variety | 1" or 1.5" |
| Grading | Separate bunches by stem length and grade | 1.5" โ colour-coded by grade |
| Wholesale market display | Bundle stems for buyer handling | 1" or 1.5" |
| Retail florist | Bouquet assembly, attaching care cards | 1" or 2" |
| Export packing | Secure stems before cool-chain transport | 1.5" or 2" |
| Gifting / arrangements | Attach tags and cards to bouquets | 0.5" or 1" |
In a busy wholesale flower market โ Koyambedu in Chennai, KR Market in Bangalore, Dadar in Mumbai โ thousands of bunches change hands before 6am. Fluorescent bands let vendors and buyers instantly identify bunch grades and sizes by colour, without stopping to count stems.
This colour system is informal but consistent across most South Indian wholesale markets. Vendors using fluorescent bands report faster sales and fewer disputes over bunch counts.
For any plant or food-adjacent application, natural latex is always preferable to synthetic. Natural latex bands are biodegradable, free from harmful plasticisers and will not leach chemicals onto stems or petals โ even in humid cold-storage conditions.
Our bands are used by flower exporters from Coimbatore and Chennai supplying UK, EU and Middle East markets where food and plant safety standards are strict.
Demand for flower rubber bands peaks around Pongal (January), Valentine's Day (February), Tamil New Year (April) and Diwali (OctoberโNovember). Plan bulk orders 3โ4 weeks before these dates to avoid delays.
1 inch and 1.5 inch natural latex rubber bands are most common in the flower industry โ used to bundle stems for market display, secure bouquet wrapping and attach care cards. For large bunches of 50+ stems, 2-inch bands work better.
Natural latex rubber bands used at appropriate tension are safe for flower stems during short-term bundling and transport. They are widely used by flower markets, florists and exporters. Avoid leaving bands on stems in heat or direct sunlight for extended periods.
1.5 inch rubber bands are ideal for bundling 10โ25 rose stems. For larger bunches of 50+ stems, a 2-inch band provides better holding strength. Fluorescent colours help market vendors identify bunch sizes quickly in early-morning trading.
